User Scenario
The user sits in front of a projected image, in a darkened room, wearing
a simple vest that monitors the expansion of her chest. A sequenced presentation
of photos, documenting an actual hiker's ascent into the Indian Himalayas,
is driven by her passive inhalations and exhalations. Breath is transformed
to simple text that advances along an actual trail in the photograph:
"you inhale..." or "you exhale". The steeper the pictured
terrain, the more breaths required to move the text up and off the trail
to advance to the next slide.
System
Custom programmed microprocessor (BX-24)
and Macromedia Director (Lingo) movie. Breath is sensed via a force sensitive
resistor (FSR) monitored by the microcontroller, which in turn communicates
serially with the software on a PC to advance the images.
